Decide what you need to keep

Wix explains that its sites rely on its proprietary technology and hosting. Treat a public-page copy as a reference for content and appearance. An operational move requires a replacement for the platform features your business uses.

Write down the pages, original media, product information and other records you need. Keep private customer or account data within your approved owner export process. Use your account’s current tools and Wix’s documentation for those exports.

Make a small public-page trial

Begin with a text-heavy public page, a gallery and a page containing a form or booking widget. A small Zipasite archive can show which public files are retrievable. The saved result needs a page-by-page check before it becomes part of your handoff.

Check the headline, body copy, images and navigation. Then inspect any sections that appear after scrolling or clicking. Content produced by JavaScript and hosted widgets may continue to depend on live services. Record those dependencies explicitly in your redesign notes.

Build a reliable redesign record

Keep screenshots of important layouts alongside your saved files. Store original logo files, photographs and written copy separately so the next implementation can use them directly. A screenshot records appearance; the original media provides reusable material.

A page list is especially useful during migration. For each original URL, record the new destination, the purpose of the page and any function the new platform needs to supply. Keep the pre-redesign checklist with this record.

Check the handoff before changing the live site

• Confirm that the reference captures show your key content.
• Retain original media through the owner account.
• Document forms, booking, search and checkout requirements.
• Check public-page files with the device offline.
• Keep your Wix access available while the replacement is reviewed.
